House, Southern Gulf Islands

Southern Gulf Islands, B.C.   2008

Located on the southern edge of the Southern Gulf Islands, this 2500 square foot private residence draws a line across the edge of a natural grassy clearing, forming a meadow forecourt on one side, overlooking Haro Strait and the Olympic peninsula on the other. It acts as a spatial filter through which to experience and engage with the particularities of this place at various scales - at the immediate scale of the grasses, rocks and stand of garry oaks, at the midscale of the gently sloping topography, meadow and forest, and at the expansive scale of the ocean vista.
